Controversy of the week

Let me ask you a question. Are you tired of a co-workers /friends making outrageous opinions or statements? Is he/she talking shit or giving way to many props to a favorite player/team/actor/actress/movie/etc? Do you feel that they have no clue what they are talking about? Well my friends your dream has come true. This is your chance to take no prisoners and to have an open floor with your controversial question and resolve the controversy once and for all. Post your controversy and your argument and we can all duke it out mano e mano right here on the Riff Rough Draft!!!

Now I wanted to bring up a topic a slap dick co –worker of mine will not stop ranting about. And I wanted to share it on the blog with the riff ruff wryders/you to see what your opinions are on this topic.

The question is:
Which LT would you select to be your franchise player with the #1 draft pick and why?
Ladanian Tomlinson or Lawrence Taylor

First of all there is only one LT and his name is Lawrence. LT could do an entire 8 ball in one sitting and still get 15 tackles and 3 sacks the next day. Plus, he had a sweet high-top fade.

Tomlinson is probably the best running back in the NFl right now, but Running backs are a dime a doze.

The nug is right, you can't talk about LT(taylor) without mentioning an 8-ball. there is LT and then there is the smaller much later version who happens o be the best player in football at the current time LTII(Tomlinson) or LT2 or LTJr. or my fav
LT-D2. There is only one LT, there is only one MJ. As great as LT-D2 maybe, LT changed the game on both sides of the ball, he is in a class all by hisself, he did not cover one side of the field, he covered the entire field. He penetrated, dominated and terminated all those in his path. his size speed and strength were matched by very few, but it was his instincts to wreak havoc that set him apart and made the greatest LB of all time and perhaps the greatest player of all time(arguably)

Where to begin...though nug and mike sterling both make excellent points about the abilities of Lawrence Taylor, i respectfully disagree. Why? Well thats a tough question, but ill try and explain. The question was: "If you were to start a franchise, which LT would you pick?" I would pick Ladainian Tomlinson, the best football player in the world. Its not an easy question mainly because Lawrence Taylor was arguably the greatest linebacker of all time, just a tenacious player who, like Mr. Sterling mentioned, covered the entire field...but in Ladainian Tomlinson you have a special talent, the rarest of athletes...a supremely talented overachiever. Granted, im a huge Bolt fan so you can say that im sensitive to the subject, but like the charasmatic african-american host of Reading Rainbow used to say..."Dont take my word for it", you see after 7 seasons of playing professional football, Ladainian Tomlinson is on pace to break EVERY significant running back record. You may say thay im lying but i encourage you to do your homework like i did. Who do you think of when you think "GREATEST EVER" in terms of running back? Walter Payton? Jim Brown? Emmitt Smith? Barry Sanders? OJ Simpson? Weird, me too. So...i took the liberty of looking up all their stats through 7 years and the results are as follows through 7 years: LT-10650 yds rushing, 115 rushing TD's, 458 receptions, 3375 receiving yards, 14 receiving TD's and ONLY 11 fumbles. 11 fumbles. Emmitt Smith-10160 yds rushing, 106 rushing TD's, 348 receptions, 2200 receiving yards, 7 receiving TD's and 36 fumbles. Barry Sanders-10172 yds rushing, 73 rushing TD's, 258 receptions, 2180 receiving yards, 7 receiving TD's and 31 fumbles. Walter Payton-10287 yds rushing, 71 rushing TD's, 243 receptions, 2170 receiving yards, 7 receiving TD's and 56 fumbles. OJ Simpson-8123 yds rushing, 49 rushing TD's, 77 receptions, 1527 receiving yards, 11 receiving TD's and 46 fumbles. Like Jay-Z said, "Men lie, women lie...numbers dont" Those are the greatest running backs the NFL has ever seen and nobody is touching Ladainian, its pretty safe to say that if LT chooses to play for 64 years like Emmitt, he'll shatter every record. Tomlinson is the most complete running back this world has ever seen, the model of consistency, the standard by which other running backs are measured by and you're gonna pass on that for a coked out meat head? Simply put, while Taylor was doing lines of coke with prostitutes and pimps...Tomlinson is running up hills, working out, perfecting his craft and thats why he is the greatest. Not minimizing Taylor's greatness, just making a point. Theres a handful of running backs i would take over Lawrence Taylor and needless to say Ladainian is one of them. You just dont pass on greatness like that...You almost forget that this debate is a mismatch. Im debating with vaginanator, a chiefs fan that lives in southern cali? We're no where near Missouri and yet he has this unexplainable loyalty to a team in the midwest. Why? Because he wanted to pick a team that was the biggest rival of the Raiders. So, to get this straight, he didnt have a football team, then decided to root for a team which was the biggest rival of the team he hates most. So the Raiders dictated the whole reason why youre a fan? Im sure there are sadder things that ive heard in my life, but im failing to think of any right now... Furthermore, there is a linebacker in San Diego by the name of Shawne Merriman who after 3 seasons has 39.5 sacks and he missed atleast 6 games, Lawrence Taylor had 16.5 after three season...food for thought. Ladainian mothafuckin Tomlinson!!!! Fuck everybody who doesnt beleive in his greatness...who's the cock-slap now?

well said aza, like always very well said. numbers do not lie, so one last thing, lets talk about the ring. or the two rings LT has, the rings, so far, so far, are the diff.

You could go that route mike sterling but there are also flaws with that argument. If you are going to determine whos better by the rings are you seriusoly going to say that Trent Dilfer was a better QB than Dan Marino because he won a ring and Dan didn't? NO! And just to add to that I think it would be a lot tougher to be the best ever at a skill position, say RB, than being the best ever at another position that doesn't involve as much skill as say a LB.
